• Strategic Plan Consultation sessions

The National Commission for Human Rights has a vast and overarching mandate. In order to successfully fulfil its mandate and set its priorities right, NCHR with the help of Huqooq-e-Pakistan project funded by the European Union, started work in developing a strategic plan. To obtain stakeholder input and feedback NCHR held nationwide consultations with civil society, academia and the media. Recommendations and input received from participants at the consultations was made an integral part of NCHRs vision and Action Plan.

  • Jail visits

The National Commission for Human Rights Act, 2012 gives the Commission the power to inspect jails and areas of detention. Member Punjab was informed about a death of a prisoner in Camp Jail Lahore. To investigate the conditions of the prisoners there, he undertook a visit of the Prisons of Punjab and forwarded report to the Commission for further action. A visit to jails in KP province was also undertaken by the Member KP. Issues identified from the visits are being incorporated in a Prison Report which is under preparation.

Naukot Incident

A gross case of Human rights violation took place in Naukot district of Mirpur khas where two women were kidnaped and later raped. National Commission for Human Rights is cognizant that violence against women is on the rise in the country and took quick notice of the case. NCHR member Sindh contacted SSP Mirpurkhas for a report on the case. He informed the Commission that a FIR has been registered and the 12 nominated by the victims families have been arrested.
